BACKGROUND

Tourism is a major economic activity for Pacific Island countries. It can be seen from the statistic data that shows high number of jobs in tourism activities. Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) noted that tourism have been encouraging the growth of travel agent and provide 100 million jobs in 21 countries in Asia Pacific. Furthermore, World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) predicted that tourism would increase the number of job in 25% that means open the opportunity for 30 million workers. In fact it assigns the reasons for Asia Pacific countries to enhance the productivity in the sector of tourism through increasing the tourism contribution in the economic. In globally, World Tourism Organization (WTO) pointed out that the number of international visitors in Asia Pacific countries was 182 million in 2007, which increase to become 184 million in 2008. In addition, in particular for Pacific countries the number of visitors in 2007 was 11.2 million and 11.1 million in 2008 (WTO, 2009).

Through the concept of ecotourism the actions to promote special interest tourists (ecotourists) are needed. A long with the increasing of awareness of tourism practitioners one need to have better understanding, knowledge and learning from best practice in order to obtain insights of the better ecotourism management and development in particular for governments and private sectors. Furthermore the Ministry of Foreign Affair of Indonesia will conduct the International Conference of Ecotourism, title: Answer the Challenge of Eco-tourism in Asia-Pacific”

The sub theme of the Conference are including:

SUBMISSION GUIDELINE

  • Please submit only the abstract by March 31th, 2011 (in MS Word) by email attachment to sem.int.puspar@gmail.com with attention to “Rindrasih Puspar”. The abstract should not exceed 500 words in length, and should be organized according to the following standardized content:

– Paper title
– Author address and the corresponding author
–  Objective
–  Methodology
–  Preliminary finding
– Potential contributions to the literature (ecotourism, disaster, community, etc.

  • Abstract received by the deadline will be immediately reviewed by a team of reviewers. The notification of acceptance will be announced on April 5th, 2011.
  • Submission of full paper will be invited after the abstract has been accepted. All full papers received will be reviewed by the reviewer’s team. The reviewed papers will then be acknowledged in the conference proceeding as peer reviewed. The paper should not exceed 10 pages of A-4 paper size, double space. The notification of selected papers to be presented on April 20th, 2011.

BACKGROUND

Tourism is an activity that can help to achieve a high level of economic and social development as demonstrated by examples of many countries in Europe, such as Switzerland or France, in Asia, such as Singapore and Malaysia, and in Africa and the Middle East, such as the island of Mauritius or Dubai. To extend the benefits of tourism development to all regions in the world the technology transfer is needed. It would promise the way to develop the export of tourism services and services based on technology transfer. However, this international specialization must be accompanied by greater equitable distribution of revenues generated by international tourism flows, otherwise, the benefits may bring detrimental consequences for people and their environment.

PURPOSES and SUB THEMES

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand principles, philosophy and concepts of technology transfer in tourism and hospitality industry as applied in developing countries with reference to culture, nature and community.
  2. Learning the best practice of transfer technology from others tourism service and product providers.
  3. Understand the roles of all stakeholders in the process of technology transfer that would increase the comparative and absolute benefit for tourism development.

OPPORTUNITIES

This International Seminar is NOT call for paper.

However, the participants are given opportunities to exhibit their research in the POSTER session.

We provide 20 boards for poster session. The participant who is willing to join their poster should mention in the registration form.

Since the number of board and space are limited the committee will make the selection process if the number of poster sessions registrants is more than the capacity of 20 posters.

CTS seek to contribute on the developing concept, theory, and methodology of tourism. It having aims to conduct basic and applied researches in the field of tourism, developing tourism education in various strata, carrying out training and technical guidance within the field of tourism, providing consultation and assistance, generating publication on the research outputs of tourism, working out close cooperative programs with both national and international institutions and carrying out seminar and workshop in the field of tourism.
