BACKGROUND

Tourism is an activity that can help to achieve a high level of economic and social development as demonstrated by examples of many countries in Europe, such as Switzerland or France, in Asia, such as Singapore and Malaysia, and in Africa and the Middle East, such as the island of Mauritius or Dubai. To extend the benefits of tourism development to all regions in the world the technology transfer is needed. It would promise the way to develop the export of tourism services and services based on technology transfer. However, this international specialization must be accompanied by greater equitable distribution of revenues generated by international tourism flows, otherwise, the benefits may bring detrimental consequences for people and their environment.

PURPOSES and SUB THEMES

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand principles, philosophy and concepts of technology transfer in tourism and hospitality industry as applied in developing countries with reference to culture, nature and community.
  2. Learning the best practice of transfer technology from others tourism service and product providers.
  3. Understand the roles of all stakeholders in the process of technology transfer that would increase the comparative and absolute benefit for tourism development.

OPPORTUNITIES

This International Seminar is NOT call for paper.

However, the participants are given opportunities to exhibit their research in the POSTER session.

We provide 20 boards for poster session. The participant who is willing to join their poster should mention in the registration form.

Since the number of board and space are limited the committee will make the selection process if the number of poster sessions registrants is more than the capacity of 20 posters.

The vision of PUSPAR UGM is to become a study center with high integrity, independency, and professionalism in advancing science, technology, and art in developing the nation and the country within the field of tourism. It is supported by its mission to carry out researches and dissemination of the research outputs through education, training, publication, and community service and cooperation network.

CTS seek to contribute on the developing concept, theory, and methodology of tourism. It having aims to conduct basic and applied researches in the field of tourism, developing tourism education in various strata, carrying out training and technical guidance within the field of tourism, providing consultation and assistance, generating publication on the research outputs of tourism, working out close cooperative programs with both national and international institutions and carrying out seminar and workshop in the field of tourism.

SPEAKERS PROFILE

1. Dr. M. Baiquni, MA

Dr. M. Baiquni, MA is the director of Center for Tourism Studies, University of Gadjah Mada. He is interested on the issues of regional development, community development and tourism development. He will present as the Opening Address on the International Seminar.

2. Prof. Dr. Hartono, DEA DESS

Prof. Dr. Hartono, DEA DESS is the Director of Sekolah Pasca Sarjana (Graduate School) of University of Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta. He focuses on the Geography major, Remote Sensing and Technology Application. He will present as the Opening Address on the International Seminar.

3. MAYOR Herry Zudianto

As the Mayor of Yogyakarta City, Mr. Herry Zudianto would present in the International Seminar as the Keynote Address. Yogyakarta City is one of the popular tourist destinations in Indonesia where has the important role in contributing cultural, historical and education aspect for the country.

4. Prof. Francouis Vellas

Prof. Francouis Vellas is the one of the Director in Acting for Life French. He is also teaching in the University of Toulouse. In addition, he is the director of Master International Economic and Politic of Tourism Program in the same university. He will be able to present in the International Seminar as Keynote Address.

5. I Gede Ardika

Drs. I Gede Ardika is a tourism expert who active in the tourism and hospitality industry for more than 20 years. He is also a former Minister of Tourism and Cultural of the Republic of Indonesia. Ardika will present in the first session to share his expertise on “Context of Indonesian Demand on Technology Transfer”

6. Prof. Bertrand Maximin

Prof. Bertrand Maximin is a Professor in the University of Paris La Sorbonne Abu Dhabi. He will present in International Seminar on the first session which is focuses on “Context of Indonesian Demand on Technology Transfer”

7. Prof. Jean Pierre Pouland

Prof. Jean Pierre Pouland is the Director of CETIA, Center for Food, Gastronomy and Tourism University of Toulouse 2.

8. Prof. Laurent Gros Maximin

Prof. Laurent Gros Maximin is the Vice President of University of Toulouse 1. He will present in the Session II on “The Role of Tourism and Hospitality Stakeholders on Technology Transfer”

9. Prof. Dr. Phil Janianton Damanik

Prof.Dr. Phil Janianton Damanik is a Professor in University of Gadjah Mada. He is also a secretary of Center for Tourism Research Studies, GMU. He will present in the International Seminar on the Session of “The Role of Tourism and Hospitality Stakeholders on Technology Transfer”

10. Jono Lesmana, M.Par

Jono Lesmana is the tourism practitioner who work actively on the technology transfer issues. He join in the Destinationjava, the tourism organization that closely focuses on the destination monitoring, development and evaluation. He owe the private company “Tunas Indonesia Tour and Travel”. Mr. Lesmana will share his experience as the private sector people perspective in the issues of tourism.
